South Side Politics

Chicago's Southside neighborhoods adjacent to Lake Michigan underwent a deep transformation over the past several decades. This transformation involved the destruction of large-scale public housing projects ("The Plan for Transformation") that then drove a change in the area's economic demographics.

The transformation affected the relatively impoverished communities of Bronzeville, Oakland, Norh Kenwood and Woodlawn, and the relatively upscale communities of Kenwood and Hyde Park.

These photographs focus on community meetings in Chicago's Hyde Park and Kenwood neighborhoods during this period of transformation.
